BBC Worldwide and BitTorrent have teamed up to offer a selection of Doctor Who episodes legally through the US-based file sharing service.
Marking a decade of the revived series, the digital bundle will include ten stories from the show, as well as six video introductions from current Doctor Peter Capaldi and a PDF of the original script for Rose. Also included will be Doctor Who: Earth Conquest, the documentary following Capaldi and co-star Jenna Coleman on their global tour to promote the show.
The ten stories included in the digital box-set are:
Series 1: Rose, The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
Series 2: The Girl in the Fireplace
Series 3: Blink
Series 4 Specials: The End of Time Part One/The End of Time Part Two
Series 5: The Vampires of Venice
Series 6: The Doctor’s Wife
Series 7: The Rings of Akhaten
50th Anniversary Special: The Day of the Doctor
Series 8: Listen
Julia Kenyon, director of drama brands at BBC Worldwide, told The Guardian:
“Our entire mission is to get content out legitimately to as many fans as we can around the world. We’re in a lot of territories, but we’re not everywhere, and not everybody has access to paid-for TV.
“This is a really lovely way to extend it even further so that more of our fans can get our content. We have quite a young audience. They’re very digital-savvy, and a lot of them access content in the digital space, so understanding their habits, and going where they are is very important for us.”
The ten stories for the bundle were handpicked by BBC Worldwide with input from Capaldi, with BitTorrent’s Chief Content Officer Matt Mason saying:
“There’s been a lot of involvement from the Doctor Who team about what should be in. This is not someone from the marketing team reorganising stuff and putting out a Greatest Hits album.”
The bundle is available to download now from BitTorrent – a 10-minute preview of Rose and a video introduction from Peter Capaldi can be downloaded for free, whilst the rest of the bundle can be unlocked for $12 (£8).
