Chibnall teases classic monsters and story arc for Yaz in series 12

The next series may not be airing until 2020, but we’re already getting a few hints about what series 12 might have in store for us.

Speaking at a special screening of New Year’s Day special Resolution, showrunner Chris Chibnall, who is notoriously spoiler conscious, revealed a few interesting bits of information.

When asked about the future of Yaz, Chibnall replied:

“That’s a really good question. I think that some of these questions may be answered in the forthcoming season.”

Hopefully this will see more development for Mandip Gill’s character, who often seemed a little sidelined in series 11.

However, Mandip Gill herself teased that a longer look at Yaz’s police background could cause trouble for the show’s dynamic, adding:

“If I get my job back, that means that I have to leave the Tardis!”

Finally, Chibnall gave us a bit of hope that we might see some returning foes in the next series. After he was asked about the lack of ‘classic monsters’ in the previous series, Chibnall replied:

“Well, maybe we’ll do some [classic monsters], then. I’ll have a think.”

We’ve already seen a Dalek in Resolution, so here’s hoping that we get to see a Cyberman, or Sontaran, or even… a giant maggot?
