Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Celebration Weekend Announced

BBC Worldwide has announced plans for a special event marking the 50th anniversary of the first broadcast of Doctor Who’s first episode back in 1963.

The Doctor Who 50th Celebration Weekend will be held at ExCeL in London, beginning on Friday 22 November, with tickets for over 15,000 fans.

The following day, 23 November, marks the anniversary of the original broadcast of the first episode of ‘An Unearthly Child’.  While Steven Moffat and all at the BBC are keeping their cards close to their chests about the content of the special episode being made to celebrate the anniversary, what are the odds on it being broadcast on Saturday 23 November – with 15,000 fans seeing it together, live?

Conventions have broadcast live episodes before – a DWAS-organised event in 1986 featured a showing of part 1 of ‘Trial of a Time Lord’.  But it’s fair to say that didn’t have 15,000 people in the convention audience…

Further details about the 50th anniversary weekend event remain to be announced.
