Doctor Who: Christmas Specials Boxset Coming Soon

We saw some major news about the next Doctor Who Christmas Special today as River Song was confirmed to return for 2015’s festive episode (see here for more details) – and some more Christmas-related news has now been released.

Amazon have officially listed a special ‘gift set’ of all the previous Christmas Specials, released in time for this year’s instalment – previously, the Christmas Specials were only on sale as part of a series boxset or as individual releases, so this is the first chance to pick all the Specials up in one release. The listing states:

For the first time on one complete set, own every Christmas special from the new generation of Doctor Who. David Tennant, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi all take starring turns in eleven exhilarating Christmas specials that set the Doctor rushing to save the world from an array of dastardly foes including the Master, the Cybermen and even Santa Clause himself.

TVShowsonDVD, who first reported the listing, have speculated that the 11 mentioned specials will comprise every special from 2005-2014, including both parts of The End of Time, and that’s pretty likely to be the case.

The boxset will be released on 24th November in both DVD & Blu-ray (you can pre-order it here). There’s no news on a UK release as of yet, but it’s likely that the gift set will be released in more places than just the US.

The Christmas Specials boxset isn’t the only new series DVD coming in November – Amazon have also listed ‘Series 9 – Part 1’ for release. That DVD will include the first six episodes of Series 9, from The Magician’s Apprentice to The Woman Who Lived, and will be released on 3rd November, with a Part 2 release and complete boxset likely following just before Christmas. Series 9 – Part 1 can be pre-ordered on DVD and Blu-ray here.
