The overnight UK viewing figures for last night’s Doctor Who 50th anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor, have been released.
The episode had a whopping 10.18 million viewers on average and a share of 37% of the overall audience. It peaked with 10.61 million. That’s an enormous figure, considering the episode clashed with The X Factor (which it comfortably beat), and it’s up around two and a half million on the last special episode, The Snowmen.
The Day of the Doctor was the second most watched programme of the day after Strictly Come Dancing. The viewing figure is the highest overnight since A Christmas Carol in December 2010, nearly three years ago.
The consolidated viewing figures will be released next week.
