10.2 million viewers tuned into The Day of the Doctor on Saturday night in the UK on BBC One, but how did the cinema screenings fare?
The Day of the Doctor made a hugely impressive £1.7 million on Saturday night alone in cinemas ($2.8 million) from around 450 sites around the country. For context, that’s close to the recent opening of box office smash Thor: The Dark World, which has now made over $500 million worldwide.
The huge success enabled The Day of the Doctor to come third in the UK weekend box office behind The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and Gravity – both of which had far more screenings and counted takings for all three days.
