The longlist for this year’s TV Choice Awards has been revealed, with Doctor Who featuring in three categories.
Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi – who is currently starring in his final full series of the show – features in the Best Actor category alongside former Doctors Matt Smith (The Crown) and David Tennant (Broadchurch). New companion Pearl Mackie, meanwhile, picks up her first nomination for her role as Bill in the Best Actress category, which also includes former companion Jenna Coleman (Victoria).
The show itself is up for Best Family Drama in a category dominated by fellow BBC One programmes including Casualty and Call The Midwife.
Doctor Who has a strong track record for reaching the shortlist of the TV Choice Awards but has been less successful at picking up wins in recent years, most recently being awarded the Best Drama Series and Outstanding Contribution awards, both in Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary year of 2013.
Voting for the longlist is open now through the TV Choice Awards website and will close at midnight on Friday 2nd June, with voting for the shortlist set to open on Tuesday 27th June.
The overall winners of this year’s TV Choice Awards will be announced at a ceremony at London’s Dorchester Hotel on Monday 4th September 2017, hosted by Pointless co-presenter Richard Osman.
