Issue 460 of Doctor Who Magazine has confirmed what many fans feared regarding the appearance of previous Doctors in this years 50th Anniversary Special. David Tennant will be the only returning actor to have played the lead role previously:
“Although David Tennant has returned to his role of the Tenth Doctor, the other old Doctors will not be taking part.”
A previously released quote from Steven Moffat was also reiterated to back this up:
“It is important you don’t turn it into a fanfest. We can’t make this all about looking backwards. It’s actually got to be the start of a new story.”
DWM also confirmed earlier reports that Christopher Eccleston had been approached to reprise his incarnation of the character but was ‘unable to do so’. However, it wasn’t all bad news as they confirmed that filming on the Anniversary episode was drawing near to completion and that production on the 2013 Christmas Special would begin once Matt Smith had completed his work on his first Hollywood outing How To Catch A Monster.
So no more previous Doctors to appear or is this another ruse from the production team to throw the theory mongers of the scent? It’s looking increasingly unlikely as the weeks go by, however, how does the old saying go? ‘Time can be re-written?’
Issue 460 of Doctor Who Monthly goes on sale Thursday 2nd of May, priced £4.75.
