This year’s nominations for the 2016 British Academy Television Awards have been announced, with actress Michelle Gomez in the running to receive an award for her work on Doctor Who.
Gomez has been nominated in the Supporting Actress category for her portrayal of Missy, who appeared in Series 9’s opening two-parter The Magician’s Apprentice/The Witch’s Familiar. The Doctor Who star is nominated alongside Eleanor Worthington-Cox (The Enfield Haunting), Chanel Cresswell (This Is England ’90) and Lesley Manville (River).
Former Doctor Who cast members to receive nominations in this year’s BAFTAs include Leading Actress nods for Suranne Jones (Idris, The Doctor’s Wife) and Big Finish’s Sheridan Smith (Lucie Miller), Male Comedy Performance nominations for Toby Jones (The Dream Lord, Amy’s Choice) and Hugh Bonneville (Captain Avery, The Curse of the Black Spot), and a Supporting Actor nomination for Sir Ian McKellen (voice of The Great Intelligence, The Snowmen).
