It’s that time again, when filming has finished and we start to get information to whet our appetite for the upcoming new series.
The BBC have revealed that Series 12 will begin on New Year’s Day in the first part of a two part story, with part 2 airing just a few days later on Saturday 4th January 2020. There will be no Christmas special this Christmas, but the BBC have teased the first episode of Series 12 is going to be one of the biggest episodes in the show’s history.
In other news, three new writers have joined the team for Series 12:
- Nina Metivier
- Maxine Alderton
- Charlene James
Meanwhile, four new directors have also climbed aboard the TARIDS:
- Nida Manzoor
- Emma Sullivan
- Jamie Magnus Stone
- Lee Haven Jones
Three writers return from Series 11 are also returning:
- Vinay Patel (Demons of The Punjab)
- Ed Hime (It Takes You Away)
- Pete McTighe (Kerblam!)
Showrunner Chris Chibnall said of the appointments:

Along with our returning faces, we’re excited to welcome new members to the Doctor Who family. The Doctor Who team is crammed with British television’s brightest writers and directors: we’ve adored working with them, and can’t wait to show you the explosive stuff they’ve created!”
