The BBC has today revealed that filming for the next series of Doctor Who is currently taking place in Spain, confirming previous reports that filming would take place in the country again this year.

Earlier this afternoon the official Doctor Who Twitter account posted the below location picture:

Other filming pictures have also surfaced showing both the location – the Teide National Park, Tenerife – in more detail, as well as a glimpse of Michelle Gomez as Missy, who was confirmed to be returning for Series 9 last week (click pictures to enlarge):

Finally actor Ben Freeman, who is currently filming for another project near the Doctor Who set, managed to grab a picture with the show’s stars Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman, as well as giving us a first look at what could possibly be a new alien for Series 9:

The episodes currently filming will together form the opening two-parter of Series 9, The Magician’s Apprentice and The Witch’s Familiar. Both episodes have been written by the show’s executive producer Steven Moffat and are being directed by Hettie MacDonald, who previously directed Blink for Series 4.
