“I’ve had many faces, many lives. I don’t admit to all of them and there’s one life I’ve tried very hard to forget.”
The Moment is stolen from The Time Vaults by the Doctor to save all of space and time from burning. The most dangerous weapon in the universe, or possibly a chair possessed by the Doctor.
The man whom all the Doctors bury within their heads, as he is their biggest regret. John Hurt plays the one who did it, “The one who killed them all, Daleks and Time Lords alike.”
However this time we see what happened, this time we watch the Doctors come together, our Doctors, this time we watch them make the choice. But what is the choice? The whole of Space and Time left to burn or a planet with 2.47 billion children.
He makes his choice after seeing the “extraordinary” Time Lords he will become later on in his life. As he heads for what he wished for, a Big Red Button. The Doctor, filled with dread, holds his hands over the button…
But “You know that sound the TARDIS makes? That wheezing, groaning. That sound brings hope wherever it goes. To anyone who hears it…” The perfect ending to a perfect story! Thank you Steven Moffat!
“Great men are forged in fire, it is the privilege of lesser men to light the flame.”
John Hurt’s character was born the Doctor, he chose to become the Doctor, he is the reason we have the Doctor today. How could he think otherwise? Did he even get the privilege of lighting the flame? In the words of the 10th Doctor “Pretending you weren’t the Doctor, when you were the Doctor more then anybody else.” Is John Hurt really one of “them”? Or is he just the man who started “them”. Does it even matter which?
