After its discovery in November, previously missing Second Doctor story The Web of Fear was fast-tracked to a DVD release this February – and it looks like the speedy release has paid off.
After under two weeks on sale, The Web of Fear has become the best selling DVD from the classic era in the 15 years of the range, selling 15,000 copies in its first week’s release in the UK. The serial has also yet to be released in the US (where it is released on 22nd April), so it’s likely that it’ll pick up plenty more sales soon enough.
Fiona Eastwood, Director of Consumer Products at BBC Worldwide stated:
“We knew that The Web of Fear would be a popular release; Yetis on the London Underground – need I say more? There’s a real appetite for exploring the extensive back-catalogue of classic stories, particularly following the 50th anniversary last year, and we’re committed to continuing that exploration for Doctor Who fans in the future.”
Fellow discovered story The Enemy of the World has also become the second-best selling in the classic range.
