The transmission pattern of Doctor Who episodes have been a bit more erratic of late. After five 13-episode runs in the spring, one 13-episode run split over spring and autumn 2011 and one 14-episode run split over the autumn of 2012 and this spring, the transmission date for the new series is more unpredictable than ever.
However, the Sun have claimed that the eighth series of Doctor Who, which will be the Twelfth Doctor’s first series, will air in August 2014, and will be a 12-episode, uninterrupted run. The tabloid newspaper claim:
Beeb bosses had to admit Matt’s exit after a leaked email from its commercial arm, BBC Worldwide, to clients gave the game away.
The mail, sent [last] Friday, told of plans to air 12 new episodes from August 2014. Crucially, it said: “This will give the new Doctor a chance to develop with the audience (apologies for this spoiler if you didn’t know).”
The Sun have a patchy track record with rumours – but as they state in the article, they reported on Matt Smith’s departure in the Christmas Special well before it was officially announced – and considering the reliable Radio Times have also stated that series 8 will likely be 12 episodes, this looks like a rumour which may turn out to be true.
