Great news – Doctor Who has won both the awards it was nominated for at the National Television Awards tonight!
Matt Smith, the Eleventh Doctor himself, won the award for Drama Performance – his second win after his victory in 2012 – ahead of Miranda Hart, Maggie Smith and Martin Clunes, before Doctor Who itself scooped the award for Best Drama for the first since since 2010, beating out rivals Call the Midwife, Broadchurch and Downton Abbey!
Head writer Steven Moffat and Clara herself – Jenna Coleman – collected the awards, with Matt Smith recording a special acceptance speech from backstage at American Psycho. You can watch the speech below:
Congratulations to Matt Smith, and the Doctor Who team!
