Doctor Who’s John Hurt Honored With Knighthood

Sir Doctor of TARDIS at last! John Hurt, who portrayed the burdened War Doctor alongside David Tennant and Matt Smith in 2013’s 50th Anniversary Special, “The Day of the Doctor,” has been awarded a knighthood for services to drama. A veteran film and stage actor, Hurt has been nominated for two Academy Awards for his roles in The Elephant Man (1980), and Midnight Express (1978). He has also won a Golden Globe, four BAFTAs, and numerous other awards.

Also honored this year is Doctor Who actor James Corden (“The Lodger” and “Closing Time”), who has been made an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE). Corden will take over hosting duties from Craig Ferguson on the American “Late Late Show” in March.
