Sylvester McCoy, who played the Seventh Doctor between 1987 and 1989, turns 70 years old today.
McCoy picked up the role from Colin Baker, and debuted in 1987’s Time and the Rani. McCoy played a darker, more manipulative version of the Doctor between 1987 and 1989, concluding with the final classic era story, Survival. However, McCoy reprised the role in the 1996 TV Movie, where the Seventh Doctor regenerated into the Eighth Doctor after being cut down by gunfire. McCoy then went on to star in numerous audio adventures by Big Finish, and is currently starring in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy.
From everyone here at The Gallifrey Times, we’d like to wish Sylvester McCoy a happy birthday, alongside Sophie Aldred, who played the Seventh Doctor’s companion Ace, who also celebrates her birthday today.
