The first round of ballots have been issued for the 2016 Emmy Awards, and Doctor Who has been represented for the first time ever, with Peter Capaldi listed in the Best Drama Actor category for his performance as the Doctor.
There are over 100 names listed in the ballot for this award, including actors Hugh Bonneville, Timothy Dalton, Tom Ellis and Michael Sheen. The full list can be found on the Emmys website.
Heaven Sent – Capaldi’s one-hander which was nominated for a Hugo Award for Heaven Sent – has also been entered into the ballot for Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series, up against more than 240 other drama productions. The episode’s director, Rachel Tallalay said:
“This is the first year DW is eligible of Emmy’s due to a change in the way it is financed.”
Registered members of the Television Academy are able to vote over which entries will go through to the nominations on 14th July, with the Emmys ceremony taking place on ABC on 18th September at 5pm (Pacific Time).
