Blackadder creator, Richard Curtis is to write a Series 5 Doctor Who episode. The 52 year-old has been drafted in to write a story in Series 5 with Matt Smith & Karen Gillian, with the executive producer, Steven Moffatt taking charge.
He has been sworn to secrecy, but told TV Biz, “There will be a monster. And a famous historical figure will battle the monster.” Rumours are quickly spreading stating that the ‘historical figure’ could well be Sir Edmund Blackadder.
Recently, the story has been confirmed on the BBC News website.
He confessed that he signed up, because he wanted to impress the younger viewers of the show. He said, “It’s tremendously good fun and a treat for my children. These days the things you can watch together as a family are much fewer so when you get something like Doctor Who or The X Factor it is such a pleasure to sit down as a family.”
“Maybe it’s a desire to get out of being old. Sometimes you do just love the idea that you could go back in time and change things.”
On writing a last comedy series, he said, “I might have one more sit-com in me before I die.”
“I hope the malaria film will be entertaining but also make the point that this is something we should do something about.
“Someone at the next election should say, ‘One of my pledges is that I will be the Prime Minister to wipe malaria off the planet.’ Bill Gates has said he wants to do it.
